Around the time of the release of "Urban Cowboy", it was reported that Travolta had dreamed about "making love to Jane Fonda". Also in 1980 he was obsessed for Catherine Deneuve. She said "He is the most exciting man I've ever met. And I have never experienced such mental or physical exhilaration with any one before!" They had a case, and then she said "When it finished I burst into tears and thanking that John didn't hurt or kill himself."

But a very important woman in his life was Marilu Henner. When they were cast in "Grease", Travolta and her were both twenty-one, and the youngest members of the company. Their attraction was immediate, but he had a girlfriend, called Denise Wurms. They had grown up together. Travolta and Denise had been dating since he was fourteen, and Henner respected the fact that Wurms was in the picture romantically. So Marilu and John became best friends. Henner and Travolta were reunited professionally when both were cast in "Over Here!"

Over the years they were to enjoy a deep friendship and, on-again, off-again relationship. "I've been that close to marrying her." They made together "Perfect" and "Chains of Gold", when their characters meet after not having seen each other for several years. They go out to dinner and reminisce- and fact and fiction merge as "Jackie" recalls "That first time in San Francisco. You know at the Travelodge".
